Biography
Jane DeWeese, the third child of Peter DeWeese and Esther Poff, was born 1820 in Floyd County, VA, according to the International Genealogical Index.
Contradictory records indicate she was born 1817 in Montgomery County.
According to a FamilySearch Pedigree Resource File, she married in Montgomery County, VA, on 22 February 1838 to Elias Smith. Other records indicate she married Elias in Floyd County.
The 1850 U.S. Census Records for Floyd County show one Elias Smith, 46 [born in 1804] married to Jane, 37 [born 1813, if age 31, b. 1819] with two daughters, Martha, 13 [b. 1837] and Hest, 11 [b. 1839] plus a grandmother, Jane Smith, age 68 [b. 1782]
