Biography

Zelotus was born about August 1785. (See note below). He married Mahitable Roberts; he died Dec. 1843 age 58 years, 5 mo., 26 days. He may have been buried a month later as 31 Jan 1844 also is recorded at some sources as his DoD.

The children of Zelotus and Mehitable are (according to "History of Crawford County" cited below):

  1. Albert Dewey d.bef. 1911
  2. Leander Dewey ? - 1862
  3. Edward Dewey 11 Nov 1826 -1915; m.1st 4 Mar 1847 to Roxanna Coffin, Herkimer, NY; m.2nd Mar 1859 to Mary Smith of Huntley, Ill.
  4. Truman (d. 1911 at Buffalo NY)
  5. Maria, m. James O'Brien, Oneida County, NY; she d.bef 1911
  6. Mary, m. James Rawley, Chicago; she d.bef 1911
  7. Charles Milton Dewey 17 Jun 1833-1904(?). He m. in 1859 to Jane Rudd, daughter of Jacob Rudd and Abigail Cute. [1]

Zelotus and his brother Elias came from Massachusetts. They were the sons of Asaph Dewey and Phoebe Sacket.

Born 1785 (1786) DoB appears in some sources. Note that 1786 date is at odds with birth of his brother Dewey-1166 within 8 months. 1785 date is used here. See also "Sackets of America" where DoB is given "1758", likley a transposition typo. Location: Richmond, Berkshire, Massachusetts, United States.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Zelotus by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share DNA with Zelotus:

Thanks David, agreed! I cleaned up the merged profile and added a note re: DoB which needs to be verified, in light of his brother's DoB the next year, allowing at least 9 months separation.

Dewey-1378 and Dewey-2026 appear to represent the same person because: Same parents, nearly same dates
