Biography

Solomon was born 16 Sep 1808 in Fort Ann, Washington, New York. [1] He was the son of Solomon Dewey and Prudence Cole.

Solomon Dewey and Mary Ann Shorey were married 29 Sep 1831 in Dansville, New York. She was born 30 Sep 1814, the daughter of Samuel Shorey and Mary Buck, and died 6 April 1836.[2]

Solomon Dewey and Mary Ann Blake were married 13 Oct 1836 in Dansville, New York. She was the daughter of Zarab Blake and Esther Etheridge.[3]

In Apr 1844 he moved with his second wife and children from South Dansville, Steuben County, New York to Waterloo, Michigan.[4]

In 1850 he was living in Waterloo, Jackson, Michigan.[5] The household included Solomon Dewey age 41 born in New York, Mary A Dewey age 44 born in New York, Solomon Dewey age 17 born in New York, Edgar Dewey age 15 born in New York, Schuyler Dewey age 12 born in New York, Zara B Dewey age 9 born in New York, Lorenzo Dewey age 7 born in New York, Mary A Dewey age 1 born in Michigan and William E Blake age 7 born in Ohio. Both the elder and younger Solomon were farmers.

In 1860 he was living in Waterloo, Jackson, Michigan.[6] The household included Solomon Dewey age 51 born in New York, Mary Dewey age 54 born in New York, Solomon Dewey age 27 born in New York, Samuel Dewey age 25 born in New York, Segar Dewey age 23 born in New York, Blake Dewey age 19 born in New York, Lorenzo Dewey age 17 born in New York, Mary Dewey age 11 born in Michigan and Prudence Dewey age 84 born in Rhode Island. Solomon, Samuel and Segar were farmers. Blake and Lorenzo were farm laborers.

He died of typhoid fever 16 Jul 1863 in Waterloo, Jackson, Michigan.[7]

He is buried in Munith Cemetery, Munith, Jackson County, Michigan.[8]
