Biography

Zebediah Dewey was born in Sheffield, Berkshire Co., Massachusetts Bay, Mass on October 8,1727.[1]

Capt. Zebadiah Dewey was a veteran of the Revolutionary War with Col. Gideon Warren's Vermont Militia, Company D, 15th regiment, in action in "the alarm at Castleton", Oct 21,1781, under orders from Lt Col Clark. His son, Azariah served under him in the Revolutionary War. Zebadiah commanded a company at the Battle of Hubbardtown, where he gained the rank of Major. He retired with the rank of Major. The Revolutionary War (1775-1783), American War of Independence, was the result of the American Revolution over the Stamp Act of 1765 imposed by the Parliament of Great Britain insisting it had the right to tax colonists, which led to the Boston Tea Party.

Capt. Zebadiah served for both Massachusetts and Vermont. [2]
