Obituary

Claudia Jean (Dewitt) Walker, age 86, of Sparta, was escorted to her Heavenly Home by her friend and Savior, Jesus Christ, Thursday, January 15, 2015. She was born April 14, 1928 on Bull Creek in Christian County, the daughter of Albert Rosco and Retta Francis (Wiggins) Dewitt. She was united in marriage to Alva Joseph Walker on January 10, 1946, and two sons were born to this union, James and Rick. Jean was a devout Christian and a faithful member of Chadwick Pentecostal Church. Singing was one of her greatest joys. She doted on her grandchildren and especially on her great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Alva Walker in 2001, her parents and step-mother, Dorothy Ann Newberry Good, two sisters, Georgia Mae Dewitt Walters, and Blanche L. Dewitt Dean, and a brother, Albert Ray Dewitt. Survivors include: Two sons and their wives, James Walker and Nancy of Ozark, and Rick Walker and Jean of Sparta; six grandchildren, Dana Powers and husband Bill of Springfield, Travis Walker of St. Louis, Clay Walker of Sparta, Cole Walker of Springfield, Wes Byers and wife Heather of Seymour, and Justin Byers and wife Amanda of Ozark; a great-grandson, Seely Powers; six brothers, Bill Dewitt, Bob Dewitt, Ben Dewitt, Warren Dewitt, Jerry Dewitt, and Garland Dewitt; three sisters, Geraldine “Gerby”, Marilyn, and Julene; nieces and nephews; and a sister by choice, Marie Applegate. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 20, in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, with Rev. Ben Dewitt officiating. Burial will follow in Chadwick Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Monday in the funeral home.[1]
