Biography

Born May 5, 1840, at Argyle, New York, Mary Eliza (Dexter) Mead was the daughter of Herbert and Harriet (Boutwell) Dexter. She married John Groot Mead in Connecticut in 1867. They moved to Otsego, Michigan, in 1867 and had one child, Hudson D. Mead. The Meads moved to the Pine Ridge area of South Dakota in 1870, where John ran a trading post and general store. The Meads then moved to Chadron, Nebraska, in 1882. John Mead died in 1920. Mary Eliza Mead died January 13, 1928, and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Chadron, Nebraska ^[1]
