In his early days, Henry spent time working on his father's farm. At the age of 14 he was baptized and united with the Baptist Chkurch. When 16 he went to an uncle's to learn the carpenter's trade. A few years later he felt called to preach the gospel and at once commenced study in the Monmouth Academy. In 1838 he was admitted to Waterville College (Now Colby) and graduated in 1842. The same year he entered Newton Theological Institution and completed the three years' course. He had already accepted a call to the pastorate of the Baptist Church in Calais. His ordination took place in Brookline, Mass., 1 Sept, 1845. Before beginning his pastorate work, he married Miss Nancy C. Herrick of New London, N. H. They were married just fours years when Nancy died. After her decease he married Mary Edna Boardman, 20 Jan., 1851. She was a descendant of the Newburyport Boardmans and Tappans. In 1869 Henry went to Kennebunkkport. The climate did not seem to agree with him, so after two years, he removed to Baldwinville, Mass. After four years of pastoral work there, ill health compelled him to 'rest from his labors'. He died at Templeton, Mass., 23 July 1884. He served for more than 30 years as a pastor. Colby University, of which he was one of the trustees for many years, bestowed upon him the degree of doctor of divinity in 1870.
