Biography

Mary was born in January 1850 in Virginia. She was the daughter of Jacob Dice and Sarah Virginia (Creek) Dice.[1]

In the 1850 census Mary (an infant) was living in District 51, Rockbridge, Virginia. Age: 0.[1]

In the 1870 census Mary (age 20) was living in Lexington, Rockbridge, Virginia.[2]

In the 1870 census Mary (age 20) was living in Walkers Creek, Rockbridge, Virginia, United States. Age in 1870: 20.[2]

When Mary was about 23 she married Daniel T Swisher in 1874 in Rockbridge, Virginia. The couple had 11 children: Bettie Walker Swisher, Alice Olivia Swisher, Henry Swisher, Minnie Swisher, Robert Elmore Swisher, Willie Swisher, William Curtis Swisher, Tomme Swisher, Thomas Jackson Swisher, Sala Swisher and Sadie R Swisher.[3]

In the 1900 census Mary (age 50) was living in Pedlar, Amherst, Virginia, USA. Age: 50. Marital Status: Married; Relation to Head of House: Wife.[3]

In the 1910 census Mary (age 60) was living in Pedlar, Amherst, Virginia. Age in 1910: 60Marital Status: Widowed; Relation to Head of House: Head.[4]
