  1. [obituary] Kathryn Dick Snow was born September 1, 1921 on Cherry Street in Greensboro, NC. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Lee Snow; her father, Rev. Frederick Marion Dick; her mother, Mabel Fries Dick; brother, Dr. Frederick Dick and sister, Margaret Dick Worley. She married Harry Lee Snow on August 31, 1941 in the church her daddy pastored in Meridian, Mississippi. They lived in Toledo, Ohio during World War II and returned to North Carolina in 1944. Kathryn retired in 1984 from Burlington Industries where she had worked for thirty-three years in personnel and as a planner. She was a member of Guilford Park Presbyterian Church and former member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. With Harry's help, Kathryn amassed a museum quality shell collection. Included were jewel quality shells, collector's shells and ordinary specimens. Many rare and unique shells were donated by Kathryn, in memory of Harry, to the Greensboro Natural Science Center in 1992 and 1993. She worked two years as a volunteer cataloging the specimens. A curator from the Smithsonian said the collection was equal to theirs. She wanted the children to see the many vivid colors and intricate patterns the mollusks made with their little mantels to reinforce their belief in the Great Creator. She is survived by her brother, Dr. Marion Dick of Birmingham, Alabama and his wife, Faye; and sister-in-law, Betty Dick, of Lynchburg, Virginia. Three daughters, Harriet Lee Snow Allen and her husband David, Frances Snow, Carolyn Snow Lewis and her husband John. Five grandchildren: John Lewis and his wife Louise, Dave Allen, Deborah Kirby and her husband Brian, Paul Allen and Mark Allen. She had six great grandchildren. Kathryn suffered from rheumatoid arthritis since 1990. She had suffered through three hip replacements, two knee replacements, a broken pelvis after her 80th birthday party, two broken wrists, a broken foot, two blood clots in her lungs, and tongue cancer. She was an example to her children in her many sufferings to keep on going. Kathryn Dick Snow died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011 at Camden Place Nursing Home. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Camden Place Nursing Home for their dedication and hard work - especially to Betty, her beloved nurse. Betty was not only her nurse but a true friend. A graveside service will be held at 12:30 P.M. Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 P.M. at Guilford Park Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Guilford Park Presbyterian Church, 2100 Fernwood Drive, Greensboro, NC 27408 or Bethel Presbyterian Church, 300 Knox Road, McLeansville, NC 27301.
