Biography

Edward was born about 1868. He is the son of William Dickens.

Was born near London on 3rd April, 1868.

1881 Residence Coddington, Cheshire, England, Chester. Edward Dickens age 13, scholar, birthplace Cheam, Surrey, England, his father William Dickens age 44, Head of the household, occupation Groom & Gardener (Dom), birthplace Bartington, Cheshire, England, mother Elizabeth Dickens, age 45, birthplace Tattenhall, Cheshire, England. . Also in the household Ellis Jones, age 24, boarder, occupation Miller (Corn), birthplace Liverpool, Lancashire, England.

Edward Dickens joined a Division of the Royal Welsh Artillery, served for about 3½ years with the British Forces in India. He received his discharge in April 1889.

For some time he tried his fortune on the opal fields at White Cliffs and various parts of Australia, mining, eventually settling at Wallaroo, where he was employed at the Wallaroo smelting works.

During later years he was employed at the jetty and was a prominent member of the Waterside Workers' Association. He was also a member of the Druids Lodge (a Past Arch ). Also a leading member in the Royal Arch Chapter. The Princeess Royal Masonic Lodge. He was also prominently associated with the local branch of the Labor Party.

1906 An inquest concerning the death of William Dickens, as recorded in the The Advertiser Newspaper, Friday 14 September 1906 . Edward Dicken said that William Dickens was his brother. He last saw him alive on Saturday morning September 1 at about quarter past, 8 o'clock in the Wallaroo Hospital. He was suffering from the effects of an accident, but was able to speak. He. said the accident was the result of defective material, when charging the holes. Subsequently his brother died from injuries sustained from this accident, he was 46 years old hen he died.

1906 Edward Dickens married Annie Elizabeth Clarke in Wallaroo.

Edward Dickens was the Uncle, guardian/ adopted father to Edward Joseph Dickens who was KIA in France at the age of 21 years.

1918 his wife Annie Elizabeth Dickens, daughter of Mr John Clarke died . She had been a sufferer for some years.

1926 Edward Dickens had falling health, an operation some months ago gave temporary relief, but he died on Thursday after being confined to his bed for about two weeks.

Birth: Edward Dickens, in The Kadina and Wallaroo Times, Obit, it records Edward was born near London. The Letter written to Rhonda Dickens by B E Dickens of Wallaroo, states some of the family were from Cheam Surrey.

Located the following birth in Epson Surrey, which is only a stones throw away from Cheam. About 5 to 6 km between them depending the route taken.
