Death of Mrs. Delia Hackett

"Mrs. Delia Edith* Hackett, and aged and respected resident of Smethport, passed away at her home on East street Monday morning at 9:00 o'clock. Mrs. Hackett had been ill for the past nine weeks.

"Deceased was the daughter of Nathaniel and Eliza Smith Dickenson,* pioneer settlers of Tioga county. They were amoing the first to build a log cabin and clear a farm in that region and the subject of this sketch was born Aug. 4, 1850, at Middlebury Center.

"About 1870, Mrs. Hackett came to McKean county to teach school. On Jan. 15, 1873, she was united in marriage to Albert Hackett in Smethport. Two children were born to this union, one surviving, Claude Hackett, of Smethport. She is also survived by a brother, John Dickenson,* of Wellsboro, and two grandchildren.

"Mrs. Hackett endeared herself to all with whom she came in contact by her lovely traits of character. Her loss will be keenly felt by many friends.

"Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon from the family home at 2:00 o'clock. Rev. Chas. H. M. Whelan of the Methodist Episcopal church officiating. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery."

• Delia's given name was Adelia Irene Dickinson. She was the daughter of Nathaniel and Eliza Lomanda (Smith) Dickinson, of Tioga County, Pennsylvania.
