Julia and James had 6 children: Leander, Matthew K, Baxter, Grover, Donnie Bill, and Lizzie.^[3]

James served in Captain Hull's Regiment #42, Tennessee Infantry Company K after enlisting in 1862 at Lobellville, Tennessee. He was imprisoned at Rock Island, Illinois. He returned home from the war about 1864. Julia Paralee Dickson, widow of soldier James B. Dickson, filed pension application W8034, Perry County, Tennessee about 1924.^[3]

James passed away on October 15, 1902.^[3] He was buried at Starbuck Cemetery, Pope, Perry County, Tennessee.^[4]
