Biography

William was born June 17, 1863 in Canada West. He is the son of William Dickson and Rosamond Armstrong.[1]

His mother died in 1872 and by 1881 he was living with his father, new step-mother and blended siblings in Essa.[2]

He married Hannah Ida Thompson in 1888 in Alliston.[3] Son Harvey Vincent was born about 1890. [4] Their daughter Ida was born in 1896 in Chinguacousy.[5] Hannah died sometime after giving birth to Ida. William (33) remarried in 1899 in Owen Sound to 23 year old Martha Clay, daughter of Moses Clay and Eliza Ann Cascaden.

Martha and William had a baby girl in 1900 in Owen Sound.[6] Martha died during or very soon afterward.[7]

Tragically, by the 1901 census William is a widower living with his son Harvey and daughter Ida in Grey.[8] His daughter with Martha must have died or possibly adopted. Jeannette Campbell (37), a domestic, is living with them to help out.

Sometime before 1906, William married a third time. This time the bride was Ellen Lambe. Their son William Hartley Clifford Dickson was born in 1906 in Owen Sound.[9] Four more children followed: Susie Edna Ellen (she died less than six months later),[10] Elmer ~1911,[9] daughter Lavina ~1915,[9] and daughter Nellie ~ 1917. [9]

In 1917, son Harvey married Caroline Edna Gibson in Kitchener.[4]

In 1921, William (55) had a household in Erin with Ellen (46), Hartley (14), Elmer (10), Lavina (6) and Nellie (4).[11]

William passed away in 1938.[12]
