Biography

Lavinia was born in 1813. She was the daughter of Robert Dickson and Lavinia De Wolf.[1][2]

Winter Wedding

Lavinia married James Bain Davison of Wallace, Nova Scotia, the son of Thomas and Janet (Ruquhart) Davison.

Her granddaughter wrote, "Grandpa and Grandma were married Jan. 28 , 1841 in Onslow and drove in a sleigh to Wallace that day and the next, stopping at Halfway House in Wentworth. Grandma was a tall, very thin girl and nearly froze."[2]

She and James had five children together:

  1. Mary Campbell, b. 12 Mar 1842, m. Thomas Brodie of Quebec.
  2. Arthur, b. 5 Apr 1844, m. Mary A. Huestis of Amherst
  3. Robert Dickson, b. 3 Oct 1846, m. Mary Araminta Purdy
  4. David, b. 24 May 1849, d. 20 Aug 1892 in Wallace. Never married
  5. Charles Creed, b. 5 Nov 1852, d. 19 Jan 1917 in Norwood, MA. Never married.[2]

Life in Wallace

They were enumerated in the 1871 census of Canada in Wallace where James was a merchant.[3]

In 1881, James was farming, David and Charles were still home, as was Annabelle Davison, James's sister.[4]

James and Lavinia were still on the farm in Wallace in 1891, with David and Aunt Annabelle in their household. Robert and his family lived on the farm just next door.[5]

Lavinia died in January 1901.[2] Her gravesite is not known.
