Biography

Luther Adolf Diedrich was born on 23 May 1911 in Walker, Hamlin, Monroe, New York to German-American farmers John Martin Diedrich and Josephine Caroline Klafehn. He was baptized on 11 June 1911 at St. John Lutheran Church in Hamlin. His godparents were his uncle Adolph "Arthur" Diedrich and aunt Elsie Klafehn.

Luther attended the former North Star School in Hamlin, and left school when he was 13-14 so that he could help his family on the farm. At the age of 18-19, he traveled to St. Lawrence County in order to work as a railroad contractor for F.A. Blair and Sons, where he met Agnes Isabel Rutherford of Waddington. They married on 9 February 1932 in Morley, Canton, St. Lawrence, New York. Together they had eight children.

The family relocated to Clarkson, Monroe, New York before moving to Hilton. He was employed at Kodak as a trick worker before relocating the family to farmland in Parma, where he became the manager of a large, successful livestock farm. Additionally, he worked as a bus driver for Hilton Central School District, where he was awarded for his long record of safe driving. Outside of working, Luther was a devout Lutheran who was heavily involved in the affairs of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hilton, including being elected to the Church Council. He was also a member of the Hilton Agriculture Advisory Committee.

Luther passed away on 10 January 1989 in Parma, and was buried three days later in Parma Union Cemetery.
