Biography

Abraham H. Diehl Sr. was born in 1741, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. An obituary note says he had a 640 acre farm in Rockingham County, Virginia. He died in 1825. He was originally buried on the home place near Cross Keys in Rockingham County, Virginia, but in 1980 was moved to the MIll Creek Church of the Brethern Cemetery, row 22R, in Port Republic, Rockingham County, Virginia[1][2]

Abraham H. Diehl, Sr. married Hannah Christina Kester about 1778, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Abraham and Christina Diehl, with their three young sons, moved from Pennsylvania to Rockingham County, Virginia, in 1779. On April 15, 1804, they bought six hundred forty acres of land from Hugh McCaley, for $10,500, near Cross Keys in Rockingham County, Virginia.

There is plaque on Find A Grave that indicates Abraham may have served in the Revolutionary War with the 6th Company, 2nd Battalion, Lancaster Pennsylvania Militia from 1777-1782, looking for sources.

Abraham and Christena Diehl, with three young sons, moved from Pennsylvania down to Rockingham County, Vir- ginia, in 1779. April 1(5, 1804, he bought six hundred forty acres of land of Hugh McCaley, for $10,500, near Cross Keys, in mat section. On this property was a new dwelling house, now owned by B. B. Miller, that is over 100 years old, and good for another century. Mr. Diehl died in 1832.
