Christenia Diehm was born 01 Jan 1768, possibly in Cumberland County, North Carolina where her father had land grants under the name Jacob Teim. These land grants were entered in 1766 and 1767. Based on church records in Mecklenburg, NC, the family moved to Mecklenburg between the years 1771 and early 1772.
Christenia's surname had been listed as House, in many trees. However, her surname was proven to be Team by mtDNA. The Teem name in German is Diehm. T and D are interchangeable in the German language.
Excerpt from Fisher Book: [1] "Controversy also existed over the spelling of Christena’s given name, as it often had been found spelled Christina. Family members throughout the years assumed her given name may have been Christiana, shortened to Christina. However, recently when the box of family history finally came into our possession, a letter was found among the papers written by Teny Fisher Misenhimer to her brother John Fisher. Teny had written in November 1857 establishing her brother, John, as her legal representative in regard to settling her mother’s estate. The letter in all probability drafted by a lawyer provides the correct spelling of her given name:
“I, Christenia Misenhimer, (sometimes called Teny Misenhimer) and widow of Moses Misenhimer, who departed this life in the county of Union, State of Illinois sometime in the month of August 1857, and also the daughter of Christenia Fisher the widow of Lewis Fisher, having departed this life some five or six years ago, in the County of Cabarrus, State of North Carolina, leaving to the said Christenia Misenhimer, the sum of about forty dollars to which the said Christenia Misenhimer is entitled to as a daughter and heir as law of the said Christenia Fisher deceased as foresaid.”
The correct spelling of Christenia’s name has been confusing. Her obituary was found in The Charlotte Journal of September 26, 1845, with her given name spelled as Christiana. Likewise, the spelling Christiana was used incorrectly for her daughter, “Teny” Fisher Misenhimer’s obituary. Christenia is a variation of the name Christiana. It is believed that both Christenia Teem Fisher and her daughter had shortened their given name to Christena."
Found multiple versions of name. Using Christena Diehm .
