Essex Digby was born in 1609 at Dromore, Co. Down, Ireland; the sixth son of Sir Robert Digby of Coleshill, Warwickshire, and Lettice Fitzgerald, Baroness Offaly. [1]
15 December 1630 he was introduced to the Rectory of Geashill, and a clause was inserted in the presentation, containing the King's grace or faculty, to hold the fame, notwithsianding his being out of orders ; but that he should continue his study, until he came to riper years to take orders upon him. (Which he held until 1670) [1]
1633 He entered Trinity College, Dublin. aged 24 [2]
Essex m1). to Thomasine, daughter to Sir William Gilbert of Kilminchy, Queen's co. Governor of the Fort of Leix; and his wife Catherine Castillian. [3]
1637 He became Rector of Ballycommon Aged 28 [2]
1642 Deposition made on his behalf by Henry Knowles of Geshell in the Kings County: Robbed of his goods and Cattell wheof he was Lawfully possessed by the Rebells then and nowe in Accion of Rebellion and their Confederates Complices....outed of his ffarme of Newtowne within the Barony of Geshell.....His goods were taken away and his house burnt by the Dempsies Duns and Connors.... 1645-1659 Aged 36 he became Vicar of Belfast (Connor)[2]
About 1650 He became Commonwealth Minister of Belfast (Connor)] [2]
1654 Death of Thomasine who was buried at St. John's Dublin on the 8th. of June.
