Transcription of Obituaries

"John Diggs, one of our best known colored men, died on Tuesday night at his home on Washington Street after a long illness. John was one of out town notables. He must have been over 60 years of age. During the Rebellion he was the attendant of Col. F. S. Stumbaugh, whom he fairly idolized. John was a sunny tempered, original man and had a host of friends among our people. His death removes another of the fast diminishing coterie of his race. He is survived by several children. Funeral today at 2 p. m., interment in Mt. Vernon cemetery."
