The Peerage
Notes
The Y-DNA of this Dill lineage is of Scottish origin. In 2015 there were 3 males of the surname Dill who had their Y-DNA tested. These 3 Dill share a common paternal ancestor who lived during the 1600s. One of these Dill had Next-Generation Sequencing done which looks for SNPs in the Y-DNA. The Dill who had NGS testing has SNPs that have only been found in tested McConkey and Louden. See URL:

It is possible the Dill surname could have derived from either McDill, MacDill or Madill.

Hi Bob Just wondered how you came by the info about John Dill being on the hearth role in Co.Donegal. I am interested in how the Dills came to move to the area - possibly as part of the plantation. Have you researched this at all? My aunt, Nancy Kinghan did a lot of research on the Dills but I dont think she found the Hearth Roll info. My great grandmother was a Dill.
Unfortunately I can't help you with this. I put the tree up originally and since then additional info has been added. I don't know anything about the hearth roll. Jenny Munro who added to my tree may be able to help you.
My great great great grandmother was a Margery Dill.
By the way I was recently in Donegal and met a very distant relative - Jim Dill - the first Dill relative that I have met so far. If you like I could contact Jim and see if he can help - just let me know.
I live in Sydney Australia - how about you?
Cheers,
Bob
Hi Bob - sent you a private message about contact with Jim Dill. I live in Staffordshire, England, from Belfast originally. My great grandmother was a Dill.
I have been matched to Dill’s (my paternal great grandfather was Henry Spurgeon Dill). His ancestors immigrated to the USA from Donegal Ireland (John Dill). However there’s a Scottish link that I have been unable to find…up until I saw this posting. I have done my AncestryDNA. How can I link it from AncestryDNA to Wiki to see if this is indeed my lineage?
best regards
Mike
