Augustus married Ann Chatterton (the daughter of Edward Chatterton and Mary Ann Delves on 7 September 1850 at Rye, Sussex, England[1]. He was a Post Office Clerk of Rye. An account of their wedding was printed on page 6 of the Sussex Advertiser dated 10 September 1850:
RYE.
Married at Rye Church, by the Rev. H. Cooper, R.D., on Saturday, 7th inst, Anne, youngest daughter of the late Edward Chatterton, Esq., of that place, to Augustus Dillon, of London, son of the late Rev. Luke Dillon. Miss Warrener, of Wareham, and Miss Daws, of Ewhurst were the bridesmaids, and Colonel King, of Hythe, gave the bride away. A splendid dejeuner a la fourchette was provided at the house of the bride's mother, to which they sat down ; after which the happy pair departed for Canterbury. The bride cake was furnished by Gunter, and was of a most recherche description. The bride was very splendidly attired.[2]
Notice of their marriage was printed on page 7 of the Sussex Advertiser dated 17 September 1850:
DILLON—CHATTERTON.—September 7, at Rye, by the Rev. H. Cooper, B.D., Augustus, son of the late Rev. H. L. Dillon, to Anne, daughter of the late Edward Chatterton, Esq., of Rye.[3]
In the 1851 England Census, Augustus Dillon (aged 23 and a Clerk Genl Post Office) was recorded living with his wife Ann Dillon (35) at Granby Street, Saint Pancras, St Pancras, London & Middlesex. Also in the household was one servant[4].
They had a son born in England; Gerald Luke Jerry Dillon (b. 30 Dec 1851, d. 26 Sept 1935).
Augustus along with his wife Ann and their infant son Gerald, emigrated from London, England to Australia, arriving into Port Jackson, New South Wales on 4 June 1853, travelling on the ship Maitland[5].
They had a second son; Hubert De Burgh Dillon (b. 27 June 1853, d. 2 May 1902)
Augustus Dillon died in 1902 in Victoria, Australia
