Robert William Dimmitt was born in 1884 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, the son of Emily Alice (Syle) Dimmitt and William Dimmitt.^[1]

He married Ruby Katherine Fellows in 1912 in Victoria.^[2] Their children were:
