Biography

  • He was a graduate of Yale College and for many years sheriff of Fairfield County.

His will is dated 1 May 1746 and proved on 1 July 1746 in Fairfield.[1]

His inventory was taken on 2 December 1746.[2]

The distribution of his estate is dated 1 December 1747 and recorded at Fairfield.[3]

Another distribution was completed on 27 June 1758.[4]

  • Page 24: "Ebenezer Dimon, son of Moses Dimon, II., and Jane (Pinckney) Dimon, was baptized March 18, 1705, He was graduated from Yale College in 1728. His class numbered only twelve students. Until 1767, names were arranged in the class lists of Yale College "not alphabetically, but according to the social rank of the family " to which the student belonged. Ebenezer Dimon's rank was fourth among the twelve families represented by his class. He married, January — 1730, Mary Burr, daughter of Col. John and Deborah (Barlow) Burr. He was an influential man in the county, and for many years its high sheriff. His death, in his forty-second year, occurred two years before his father's, and his widow married Col. James Smedley, Inventory of his estate, £5,800. His family consisted of eight children — five daughters and three sons. His son, Col. David Dimon, was an officer in the United States army, and left a brilliant record of service. He was colonel of the 5th Regulars; major on Gen. Montgomery's staff at the siege of Montreal ; died in Ridgeueld, in service.t Sarah Dimon, daughter of Ebenezer, married Joseph Sturges, who died on board a British prison ship in the WTar of the Revolution, leaving her a widow with six children."
