Aeltje was the second wife of Willem Traphagen. Her name has been recorded as Aeltje Dircks,[1] Aeltje Dircx,[2][3] and Aeltje Dirricksen Meermans. According to the record of her marriage, she was from Steenwyck (i.e., Steenwijk, Overijssel, Netherlands).[4][5][6]
She married Willem Traphagen on 1 June 1658 in New Amsterdam, New Netherland (now New York City).[7][8] They had a son, Johannes, born in 1659. Willem remarried in about 1661, after Aeltje had died.[9]
