According to the record of her first marriage, Ursul (also recorded as Orsel or Orseltje and othariants) Dircks was born at Hamburg, which was then in the Duchy of Holstein.[1] She probably was born in about 1630; record of her birth or baptism has not been found.
Ursul Dircks, an unmarried woman from Hamburg, living at the "Leuvehaven" (a harbor of Rotterdam), married Jan Hendricksen, an unmarried man from Rotterdam, at Hillegersberg, near Rotterdam, on October 25, 1653, after a publication of the intended marriage on September 21, 1653.[2][3] Orsel's first child, Pieter van den Vos, was born before this marriage. Orsel's husband Jan Heijndricksz became Pieter's guardian in March 1654.[4]
Ursul and her husband Jan Hendricksen both were working in the brewery 'Het Witte Paert';[4] the brewery was situated at the Leuvehaven (harbor).
On August 29, 1655 the intended marriage of "Tuenis Jacobs, a young man from Beckum, living at the Pannekoekstraat, and Orsel Dircks, widow of Jan Henricksen, living at the Nieuwe Vogelsang" was published at Rotterdam.[5][6][7][8]
At the emigration to New Amsterdam (New York) in the ship De Moesman, sailing May 1, 1658, she is mentioned as: "Ursel Dircks, from Holstein with two children, 2 and 10 years old." [9][8]
Ursel was a passenger to New Netherland on the ship De Moesman (The Market Gardener), with two children ages 2 & 10, and arrived 1-May-1658.[10] She was twice widowed. She was a young woman from Hamburg, living at the "Leuvehaven" at the time of her first marriage to Jan Hendricksen at Hillegersberg, near Rotterdam, Holland on 25-Oct-1653 [2][3]. On 29-Aug-1655, publication was made of the intended marriage of the young widow to Teunis Jacobs, a young man from Beeckum, living at the "Pannekoekstraat" at the time that she was listed as living at the "Nieuwe Vogelsangh". [5][6] The ages of her two children should be shown as two years and ten months, respectively. The names of the two children are unknown. [11][8][12][12][13]
While en route to join her new husband at Albany, Ursul Dircks ordered some new clothes from Anony De Lorme, corner of Goidweighers and Broad Streets, New York on April 23, 1658, and received an advance of money in silver and gold. [14][8]
On November 30, 1662, Antonis Jansen paid for the use of a small pall, and on June 11, 1664, he again paid for the use of the pall. (Burial Records of the First Dutch Reformed Church of Albany, 1654 - 1862, published in The Dutch Settlers Society of Albany Yearbook, 1932 - 1934, pp. 4, 5) The names of the two children are unknown.
The site of Anthony Jansen's tavern in Albany is described as a house, lot, and garden, located on the south side of State Street, east of Broadway. The date of purchase was January 14, 1662; it was sold July 15, 1668. [15]
Unknown Parents
Note: This person was originally listed on Wikitree as a child of Dirck Volckertszen & Christina Vigne. Provost did not list this individual in his work "Early settlers of Bushwick, Long Island" which listed the children and descendants of Dirck Volckertszen.[16]
It is estimated that Orseltje was born ca. 1630, most likely in the Duchy of Holstein.
Orseltie Dircks was born ca, 1635 in Hamburg, then in the Duchy of Holstein, and died ca. 1678 in Albany (formerly Ft. Orange & Beverwyck of New Amsterdam), Albany Co., NY [20]. Note: It should be noted that neither Prussia or Germany controlled Holstein, in 1635, when Orrseltie Dircks was born, Holstein was a Duchy and Danish Fief . Prussia and Germany were not involved until the 1800s, and it wasn't until 1937, under Nazi Germany, that Hamburg was given administrative control of Holstein. See Wikipedia: Duchy of Holstein.

He was son of Johannes de Mott and Maria De Motte [20].Note: It is possible that Annetje was an unrecorded, or record not found, child of Antony Jansz Westbrook, and that the earlier step daughter Annetje had died...nothing found yet to support this theory.
Unknown Teunis b. ca. 1656. Birth would correspond to her marriage to Teunis Jacobs [10]. This child was listed as age 2 on the ship's manifest. No further information found for this child...possibly died young

Note
Anthony Jansen Westbroek and his wife Orrseltie Dircks are the progenitors of this New York Westbrook family. They were married about 1658 or 1659. They had a tavern and resided at Flatbush on Long Island, and at Albany, New York. Their names appear in over 125 colonial records during the period April 23, 1658 to December 22, 1678; many of these records have not been published. [38] Other persons from the village of Westbroek, The Netherlands, contracted with Kiliaen van Rensselaer for employment in the colony of Rensselaerwijck, now Albany, New York, one of whom was Jan Teunisen, a carpenter. Jan Teunisen properly named his son Anthony Jansen in keeping with the Dutch custom of family naming. Anthony Jansen is the only person who adopted the surname 'Westbroek" when he was required to distinguish himself from other contemporary Anthony Jansens when the British controlled the colonies. They were Anthony Jansen van't Ooch, A. J. van Salee, A. J. van Vees, and A.J. van Vlieringen. Our Anthony Jansen Westbroek signed his full name shortly before his death. (Flatbush Town Record, May 11, 1672) [38]

Other ways to spell "Orrseltie Dircks":
There are several Orseltje Dircks in Rotterdam, one was buried in 1664 in Rotterdam but is mentioned as a young daughter (so she most likley wasn't married) and wasn't 'our' Orseltje. And there's also an Orseltje Dircx (from Amsterdam) that married (age 38 years and young daughter, so not married before) Rissart Volschart (signs: Waelschert) (from Rotterdam) on 22 July 1654 in Amsterdam (on 5 July 1654).

I have pre merge organized the duplicate PPP profile already a bit (added repeated source ref tags etc) and added the majority of the info and sources from this profile there as well now, to make the merge a bit easier. It's great to see all these sources eeh, and the cousin Lieve Fredericks van Garding that's mentioned in the notarial deeds from Rotterdam is also mentioned in records from New Netherland that were added to the PPP profile already..really awesome :D

http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Dircks-146 and Dircks-32 appear to be the same person. Dircks-146 should be merged into Dircks-32...however it is suggested that Dircks-32 be reorganized/consolidated before another merge takes place.
Dirxs-1 and Dircks-32 appear to represent the same person because: This is the oldest maternal ancestor in this chain in need of a merge. No tree conflicts. These matches have been reviewed by the New Netherland Settlers Merge Approval System, and the "Green" destination NNS profile is protected as PPP, and the "Merge Pending" profile is now ready and able to be merged into it. I saved the data to the bios. Thanks!
Dircks-32 and Dyrcks-3 appear to represent the same person because: they were in an unmerged match & the New Netherland Settlers Approval System (http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:New_Netherland_Settlers_-_Approval_System) now has them marked "Green" (NNS Category) and "Orange" (Merge Pending), indicating that the two are ready to be merged.
