RAY, ELIZABETH: . . . After 83 years of earthly existence one of the purest and most like of women has entered life more abundant . . . Mrs. Elizabeth Ray was born Feb. 24, 1827. She was converted when young at a meeting conducted at her father's home by Rev. Jesse Hickman. Her father was converted at the same meeting. They all joined the C. P. Church at Hopewell Campground on Cane Creek, then White County, now in Putnam. Aunt Lisey, as she was so often called by many, lived devoted Christain for more than forty years. She was wholly sanctified in the last part of her life and left all the evidence that could be desired to prove to her friends and loved ones that she was ready for the summons and was going to greet her husband and children that had gone on before. She died on the morning of the 7th of March, 1909, at 6:30. She was married to J. P. Ray Oct. 11, 1849. To them was born one son and two daughters. The son and one daughter died in infancy; the other daughter married J. P. Young of Smith County, now living one mile from Cookeville. Aunt Lisey leaves six grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, one daughter and son-in-law, and a host of friends to mourn their loss but her great gain. [Date 7/8/1909, Vol. VII, No. 27, Page 7]
