Martin Frederick Dix was born at 10 Boyson Road, Camberwell 2 Jan 1883, the youngest child of James Charles and Fanny Dix nee Cozens. He was baptised 11 Feb 1883 in St. Stephen, Walworth, Surrey.[1][2]
He was registered by his father into school in 1888 when they lived at 32 Evelina Road.[3]
In 1891 He was living with his family at 20 Nunhead Grove[4]
In 1901 he was with his parents at 228 Albert Road, working as an assistant oil shop man.[5]
In 1902 he joined the Merchant Navy and was an assistant cook on several different ships and was discharged in 1904.[6]
In 1904 he worked for the London, Brighton and South coast Railway as a Firelighter.[7]
He married Alice Maud Cobby 24 Sep 1906 and they lived in 10 Cromwell Street, Brighton, East Preston.[8]
In 1911 Census shows him residing at 3 Kings Row, Worthing, Sussex with wife Alice and three daughters, he was a Hotel Porter.[9]
Martin worked as a hotel cook and hotel porter until 1918 when he joined the Royal Naval Reserve as a Trimmer-Stoker and Discharged in 1919.[10]
He continued his family life in Brighton. In 1924 they moved to Camberwell Road in Southwark.
Alice and Martin had six daughters, one of whom died in infancy, and one son.
The 1939 Census shows him living with sister Minnie Andrews along with his wife, Alice and daughter, Rose V. in the Aumn registration area of Southwarke.[11]
He continued to live in Southwarke until his wife died in 1953. This is verified with multiple Electoral Register Records from 1924 to 1954.
After his wife died in 1953 Martin moved to Huddersfield, Yorkshire to be near family that had been evacuated there during the war. He died in the Hudderfield Hospital 12 Dec 1958.[12][13]
