Biography
William was born in 1862. He is the son of John Dixon and Isabella Porter. [1][2] In 1880, William's occupation is recorded as "oystering." [3] William married Mary Klein in 1883. [4] In 1900, the couple and several children are enumerated on the federal census in Elizabeth, New Jersey. [5] William's occupation is described as "carpenter ship." [6] William and Mary's marriage did not last. Though they are generally understood to have separated in 1912, in 1910 William Dixon, oysterman, is enumerated as head of household in what appears to be a household of male boarders. [7] William died in 1927. [8]
