Biography

Edward was born about 1804. Edward Dixon ... He passed away about 1840. "The story of Ned Dixon (Josie's eldest son) and his wife, Polly (Wilson), became infamous in June of 1840 when in the morning hours, Ned was shot as he stood in the doorway of his house, Polly's brother, William Painter Wilson, was brought to trial for his murder, but was acquitted when the evidence was judged circumstantial and inconclusive. The trial was held in Rommey W. Va., then the county seat, and witnesses were paid travel and lodging expenses for the duration of the proceedings . Following the trial Polly was remarried to John Irons and moved to Garrett County Maryland. William Painter Wilson resettled in Belington West Virginia. Ned's tombstone remains with the inscription 'MURDERED' still discernible."[1]
