John Dixon was born in North Carolina, where he married Henrietta "Ritty" Booth around 1801. They probably moved to Georgia shortly after they were married, as census records for their son Zachariah show that he was born about 1802 in Georgia. Their son Lindsey was also born in Georgia, about 1807. By 1835, Zachariah was in Amite County, Mississippi, where his father died before April 24, 1850.

Family notes speak of a Hollingsworth ancestor, which could have been Sarah (Hollingsworth) Dixon, but how this John is connected to her is not known.
Family notes also say Zachariah Dixon was the son of John Dixon and his wife, Henrietta (Boothe, born after 1775 in Orange Co., NC) and that John was possibly born in Virginia and died in Amite County, Mississippi, in 1849. (update on 5/22/2013: DAR Records for Daniel Booth show daughter Henrietta married John Dixon)
Various Dixon and Hollingsworth marriages are listed at Delaware Roots, including:
John DICKSON of Mill Creek Hundred, NCC, and Sarah HOLLINGSTH. [Hollingsworth] of Christiana Hundred, afsd. co. 29-8-1724 at Center meeting house.
I believe Zachariah's father John is probably a grandson of Thomas and Judith (Wingfield) Dixon, based on the family names among The Family of Lt. Col. Henry Dixon (website by Scott K. Williams, accessed October 17, 2014). Excerpt:
"The grandparents of Lt. Col. Henry Dixon, Revolutionary war veteran, are Capt. Thomas Dixon (d. abt. 1763 in Prince George County, Va.) married Judith Wingfield in 1720. (Judith Wingfield was the daughter of Jarvis Wingfield and Hannah Wynne.)
"The children of Capt. Thomas Dixon and Judith Wingfield were:
"1. Henry Dixon, Sr., born 1723; died Oct 1795 Caswell Co., NC; married Elizabeth Abernathy. (Parents of Lt. Col. Henry Dixon)
"2. Thomas Dixon
"3. Martha Dixon who married James Greenway
"4. John Dixon, born in Dinwiddie Va. Died in Warren Co Ky. married to Mary ???
"5. Frederick Dixon 1747 married to Nancy Hines. He died 1786 in Dinwiddie Va.
"6. Mary Dixon, born 1735; married first, Simon Samuel Seward. 2nd, Hugh Hall, b. Petersburg, Prince George County, Va. (source: David F. Klein, not confirmed)"
... The Henry Dixon, Sr. family migrated to Caswell Co., NC, before the Revolution. Henry Dixon, Sr. died in October 1795.
See Williams' [ website] for details, including the children of Henry Dixon Sr. & Elizabeth (Abernathy) Dixon (also listed on her profile page).
G2G - question about a descendant of an ancestor? A couple of Williams, but couldn't find a connection to this John Dixon.

It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share DNA with John:
