Biography

John is the father of Joseph Dixon, born out of wed-lock to Rachel Haworth. Both John and Rachel were members of Cane Creek Quaker Monthly Meeting at the time. In Aug 1775 there was a court hearing in Chatham Co., NC: "John Dixon was fined four pounds and ordered to pay five pounds a year for five years for the maintenance of a base-born child begotten on the body of Rachel Haworth." Rachel Haworth was born in about 1756 and is the seventh child of Stephanus and Rachel Haworth. They were disowned from Cane Creek. Several years later Rachel condemned her misbehavior and was granted readmission. She married in 1780 with blessing of both sets of parents, and had about 14 more children.

John, on the other hand, continued to live in the Quaker community throughout his life, but did not rejoin the society. He worked as a farmer, married twice, and had many other children.

John Henry repeatedly denied fathering the child of Rachel Haworth. The Quaker elders spent a lot of time trying to work with him to admit the action. In their frustration, they turned to the courts for restitution for Rachel and the child. ( I don't think Quakers usually turned to the courts in instances such as this. ) John Henry continued to live among the Quakers.
Mother is likely Elizabeth Allen, but we don't have absolute proof. We do have record of her marrying his father, Simon Dixon. U.S. & International Marriage Records, 1560-1900 in 1752, Pennsylvania.
Dixon-6663 and Dixon-1233 appear to represent the same person because: This is the spouse of Rebecca (Johnson) Dixon, for whom a merge was just completed, so now the duplicate husband profiles should now be merged. Dixon-1233 is poorly sourced, so the data from Dixon-6663 should prevail.
