Biography

Anna Maria Dixon was born 16 September 1863 in Illinois, the daughter of James Dixon (1825-1904) and Christiana (Meyers) Dixon (1830-1893)

27 July 1860--She was 7 and lived with her parents in Oran, Fayette Co., Iowa where she was attending school. Enumerated in the home: James Dixon, a farmer aged 33, b. England and "Christena" Dixon-30, b. Pennsylvania. Apparent ch: "Benjiman" 14, b. Illinois; Sarah E-10, b. IL; Ann M Dixon-7, b. IL; Margaret-5, b. IL; "Francis" Dixon- Female-2; b. Iowa and Geo W, aged 2 months, born in Iowa.

10 June 1870--Enumerated as "Maria Dickson," she was 15 years old and resided in Oran, Fayette Co., Iowa with her parents. in the household were: James Dickson, a farmer aged 46, born in England and Christine Dickson-44, b. PA, Their apparent children were:; Sarah Dickson-19, b. IL; Maria-15, b. IL; Margaret -13, b. IL; Frances-11. b. Iowa; George-9 Iowa; Phebe-6, b. Iowa; John -4, b. Iowa and Eliza Dickson, aged 1, also born in Iowa. Anna Maria had attended school within the past year.

30 March 1874, she married Ansel Leroy Godown in Washington Co., Iowa.

10 June 1880,"M. Annie" Godown was living with her parents, siblings and 5 year-old daughter, Cora in Indiana, Graham County, Kansas. The family was enumerated as "Dickson." Census shows she was "divorced" and working as a servant. Perhaps only separated temporarily, as both she and her husband died in Oregon and were buried near each other in the same cemetery. They also, subsequently had other children together. Another marriage record has not been found for the couple. Husband Ansel Leroy Godown (1851-1927) was farming in his widowed sister's home in Canton, McPherson Co., Kansas at the time, about 200 miles away.

20 June 1900, The couple is found together in the census. Anna M. and "Ansell" L. lived in Beloit Township Beloit City Ward 1-3, Mitchell, Kansas with two daughters: Katie M.--15 and Christina M.--11. Ansel worked as a day laborer. They had been married 27 years. Anna had given birth to 5 children/3 still living.

1920--

08 June 1927, Anna was widowed when her husband passed away in Multnomah County, Oregon.

03 April 1930--At the age of 76, Anna M. Godown resided in Portland (Districts 271-553), Multnomah Co., Oregon with three grandchildren and her daughter, Katie Moore, in the household of her son-in-law, William E. Moore, a grocery salesman.

12 Oct 1933 she passed away in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon (aged 80) with burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Beloit, Mitchell County, Kansas, USA near her husband. Find A Grave: Memorial #70814463
