Biography

This profile is part of the St Helens, Lancashire One Place Study.

Elizabeth Ann Dixon was born on 4 Mar 1875 in Sutton, St Helens, Lancashire. She was the daughter of Richard Dixon and Harriet (Winders) Dixon. She had one surviving older brother, John William. She was christened on 4 Apr 1875 at St Michael's Church in Burtonwood. Her father's occupation was given as miner, and the family's address as Sutton.

Elizabeth's sister Edith Jane was born in 1877 in Parr; her birth was registered in the last quarter of the year, in Prescot district.

Elizabeth's sister Mabel was born in about 1880 in Parr; she was christened on 11 Jul 1880 in Newton-in-Makerfield.

By April 3rd 1881, Elizabeth's parents were living in Parr Moss, Parr with their four children John William (10), Elizabeth Ann (6), Edith Jane (3) and Mabel (10 months old). Elizabeth's father was working as a coal miner.

Elizabeth's sister Mary was born in about 1882 in St Helens.

Elizabeth's brother Richard Albert was born on 29 Nov 1883 in Parr. He was christened on 30 Dec 1883 at St Peter's Church in Parr. His father's occupation was given as miner, and the family's address as Parr.

By April 5th 1891, the family were living at 1 Parr Moss, Parr. Elizabeth's father was still a coal miner, as was John. Mabel wasn't listed as being in the household on census night - her whereabouts are uncertain. The other children were all there, and none but John were in paid work.

Elizabeth died in 1894 in St Helens, aged 19.
