Sylvanus was born about 1725 in North Carolina.^{[citation needed]}

Silvanus Dixon is listed as a member of the Carteret County Militia in 1754 serving as a private under Col Thomas Lovick and Capt Joseph Fulford. ^[1]

A land grant for Sylvanus Dixon for 300 Acres on the north side of Core Sound, Carteret County, North Carolina was issued on December 11, 1790. It is possible that the deed was for either this Sylvanus Dixon who is referred to as "Old Sylvanus" on documentation and research or his son - Sylvanus Dixon. ^[2] A Sylvanus Dixon can be found in Carteret, North Carolina in the 1790 census, ^[3] 1800 census^[4] , and the 1810 census. ^[5] It is difficult to determine if "Old Silvanus" is being enumerated in the 1790 and 1800 census or his son. But since "Old Silvanus" died in 1802, we can be relatively certain that the 1810 census is documenting the son.

He died about 15 May 1802 in Portsmouth Island, Carteret, North Carolina.^{[citation needed]}
