Biography

John was born about 1851 in Yokefleet, Yorkshire, England, where he lived with his parents, James and Jane Dobson.^[1]

At the time of the 1871 census John worked as an agricultural labourer for the Steels family in Faxfleet, Yorkshire.^[2]

In 1877 John married Louisa Waterhouse.^[3] The family lived in Bellasize, Yorkshire, where John was a railway platelayer.^[4][5][6][7]
