MARRIAGE (1). 9 Apr 1938, St. Mary's Church, South Perth, Western Australia
MARRIAGE (1). 9 Apr 1938, Kenneth William Steele, son of William Frederick George Steele & Emelie Frances (Stevens) Steele
WEDDING (1) REPORT. ST. MARY'S CHURCH, South Perth, was the scene of a most attractive wedding when Helen, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Dobson, of Labouchere-road, South Perth, and Kenneth Steele, late of Melbourne, and now a member of the Royal Air Force in this State, were united there, yesterday. The bride made a charming picture as she entered the church with her father, and followed by her sister, Miss Josephine Dobson, and Miss Joan Salom, who acted as bridesmaids. Mr. Donald Dobson and Mr. Bob Giles acted as best man and groomsman respectively. A Dresden China figure was called to mind by the bride, who wore a self-patterned white organdie frock, embroidered all over with tiny spray of pink and blue daisies. The bodice was draped and had puffed sleeves, and the train, which formed a part of the skirt, fell in frills from the waistline. A girdle of pink organdie leaves encircled her waist, and a comparatively short tulle veil was worn with a wreath of pink organdie leaves and orange blossoms. She wore a diamond and platinum brooch, and this gift from the bridegroom took the form of the Royal Air Force emblem, a pair of wings. The bride carried a muff of hydrangeas and Cecil Brunner roses. The attendants were simply attired in blue organdie frocks with pin-tucked bodices and puffed sleeves, and with these wore Juliet caps of blue tulle with wreaths of Cecil Brunner roses, and carried Victorian posies composed of pink roses and gerberas. Mrs. Dobson, the bride's mother, was a gracious figure in a frock of cool green Maltona, patterned with gold, cut on long, flowing lines and worn with a cape coat. A reception was held in the hall of the new Oddfellows' building in St. George's-terrace. Following the toasts the bride and bridegroom left on their honeymoon. The bride's travelling frock was a navy and white spotted sheer, buttoned down the front with white buttons, and white belted. This was worn with a lightweight navy tailored coat, small navy hat and navy accessories.
