Dick Doby was born in North Carolina.

Richard "Dick" Green Doby was born on 9 Sep 1892 in Surry County, North Carolina, to William Pinkney Doby and Martha Ann Gentry.[1]

On the 1900 Census, he was 7 years old and lived with his parents and siblings in Dobson Township, Surry County, NC.[2]

On the 1910 Census, he was 16 years old and lived with his parents and siblings in Dobson Township, Surry County, NC. He was able to read and write.[3]

He was married to Pearl Jane Griffin on 21 Aug 1914 by the Justice of the Peace in Dobson Township, Surry County, NC.[4] They had 7 children: Mary Creola Doby[5], Martha Levera Doby[6], William Valmar Doby[7], George Voliney Doby[8], James Ordra Doby[9], Floyd Moultry Doby[10], and Lester Dewey Doby[11].

He registered for the World War I Draft on 5 Jun 1917 in Dobson Precinct, Surry County, NC.[12]

On the 1920 Census, he was 26 years old and lived with his wife and daughter in Dobson Township, Surry County, NC. He was a farmer.[13]

On the 1930 Census, he was 34 years old and lived with his wife and children in Dobson Township, Surry County, NC. He was still a farmer.[14]

On the 1940 Census, he was 46 years old and lived with his wife and children in Jonesboro Township, Lee County, NC. He had completed the 3rd grade in school and was still a farmer.[15]

On the 1950 Census, he was 54 years old, and his first name was listed as "Ira". He was living with his wife and children in Carthage Township, Moore County, NC.[16]

He passed away on 22 May 1962 from heart disease at St. Joseph Hospital in Southern Pines, Moore County, NC, and was buried at Rocky Fork Christian Church Cemetery in Sanford, Lee County, NC.[1][17][18]
