Jessie Loree Doby was born on 14 Sep 1918 in Surry County, North Carolina to Charlie Edgar "Manny" Doby amd Mary Etta Badgett.[1]
On the 1920 Census, she was 1 year old and lived with her parents and siblings in Dobson Township, Surry County, NC.[2]
On the 1930 Census, she was 11 years old and lived with her parents and siblings in Dobson Township, Surry County, NC. She had attended school and was able to read and write.[3]
On the 1940 Census, she was 21 years old and lived with her parents and siblings in Dobson Township, Surry County, NC. Her highest level of education was the 4th grade.[4]
She was married after the 1940 Census to Howard Dallas Matthews. They had two children: Gwyn D Matthews and Mary Kim Matthews.[5]
She passed away on 10 Feb 2010 in Yadkinville, Yadkin County, North Carolina and was buried at Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Yadkinville.[6][5]

- Jessie Doby Matthews, 91, of East Bend, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010.
- She was born in Surry County on September 14, 1918 to Edgar and Mary Etta Badgett Doby. Mrs. Matthews was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church.
- In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Matthews; two sisters, Josie Atkins and Grace Culler; and three brothers, Curvy Doby, Alonza Doby and George Doby.
- Surviving are a son, Gwyn (Susan) Matthews of East Bend; a daughter, Kim (Eddie Buff) Matthews of East Bend; one sister, Edna Corder of Mt. Airy; one brother, Jack Doby of Dobson; one grandchild, Lane Matthews of East Bend; two step-grandchildren, Chip (Tammy) Wilson and Andy Wilson; and three step-great-grandchildren.
- Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, Feb. 12, at 3 p.m. at the Huff Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenny Gooden and the Rev. Jim Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 12, from 1 - 2 p.m. prior to the Funeral Service. Burial will follow in the Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
- Memorials may be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.[7]
