Calvin Doby was born in North Carolina.

Calvin Doby was born about 1826, probably in Davidson County, North Carolina to William Doby (~1808 - >1840) His mother is not known.[1][2]

His first marriage was to Sarah Lucyann Talbert around 1848.[3] They had 8 known children:[4][5][6][7]

On the 1850 Census he was 25 years old and lived with his wife and son in Montgomery County, North Carolina. His occupation was "laborer". [4]

On the 1860 Census he was 31 years old and lived with his wife and children in Fork Montgomery County, North Carolina. HIs occupation was "hireling" and he was able to read and write. [5]

He enlisted in the Confederate Army, North Carolina 21st Infantry, Company A on 8 May 1861 in Lexington, North Carolina. He was wounded in his left arm on 25 May 1862 in Winchester Virginia and was discharged from the Army due to the wounds on 25 Oct 1962. He is listed as a member of the North Carolina Infantry, 21st Regiment during the Civil War.[8] [9] [10] [11] [12]

On the 1870 Census he was 49 years old and lived with his wife and children in Harris, Stanly County, North Carolina. His occupation was "farmer" He was unable to read or write. [6]

When his wife, Sarah died in 1871 he remarried to Margaret Saffly. They are no known children. [13]

On the 1880 Census he was 56 years old and lived with his wife and children in Uwharrie, Montgomery County, North Carolina. His occupation was "farming" and he was able to read and write. [7]

To date there is no record of his death, but it would have been sometime after the 1880 Census.
