He was the son of John Doby (abt.1680-bef.1737) and Ann (unknown) Unknown (abt.1680-).[1] At this time, there is no record of his marriage. The death date is also a guess based on his will which was probated 15 Feb 1760 in Sussex (formerly Surry) County, VA.[2]
In his will, signed January 15, 1760, Robert Dobie named the following heirs:
