Her husband Matthew died around 1855. On 6 September 1855 in Hopkins County, Kentucky, she married John Gatlin.
In 1860, Mary E. Gatlin, age 25, lived in or near Madisonville, Hopkins, Kentucky with husband John Gatlin, her two children from first marriage: John B Moore and Octava Moore; and her two Gatlin children: Martha T and Susan E.[2]
