Biography

Dock was born about 1866 in Magnolia, Arkansas right after the end of slavery. He likely had at least 6 siblings. Dock is found on the 1880 Census with the surname Steger in Arkansas. Dock does not appear in records until almost 30 years later when he married Mary Ellen Walker in Oklahoma. Given Dock's age, it is likely that he had a previous wife and children. Dock and Mary Ellen had eight children. In the 1930 Census, Albert is still working at the age of 64 as a laborer in a private yard. He owned his own home and was listed as a widow. Mary Ellen was still living at the time, but the two were likely separated. Dock would go on to have two more children with Anna Edwards. In Dock's final years, he returned to the place of his birth in Magnolia. At the age of 71, Dock was married for a final time to Carrie (Gray) Dockery. Dock died in his home in Oklahoma at the age of 74.
