Josias was baptised on 26 May 1633 at St Alkelda, Giggleswick, Yorkshire, where his father was the vicar: Josias f(ilius) Magistri Roberti Dockrey vicarii de G = Josias son of Master Robert Dockrey Vicar of Giggleswick.[1]
He entered Christ's College Cambridge on 9 April 1652 and obtained his B.A. in 1656, later M.A. and LLD. He was perpetual curate of Lanchester, county Durham, 1663-1668 and Vicar of Newburn 1668 - 1683.[2]
He married Mary Sanderson at Lanchester on 23 November 1658.[3]
Josias died in 1683 and was buried at Newburn on 31 July 1683.
