Biography

Rev. John Dod was born in 1549 in Malpas, Cheshire, England. He was called "Decalog Dod", from his Commentary on the Ten Commandments. He attended Jesus College, Cambridge. He was Vicar of Hanwell, Oxfordshire from 1585 to 1607. He then went to Canons Ashby and then Fawsley. He was at Hanwell, Oxfordshire for 20 years. He married first Anne Bownde. Children: William, Elizabeth, Ellen, Ales, Mawde, John, Anne, Elizabeth. He remarried after her death to _____ Chilton. He died in Aug 1645 in Fawsley. He wrote a widely read book "A Godly Form of Household Government."

One day in 1606 Dod met with other Puritan ministers at the home of Lady Isabella Bowes of Coventry, a religious reformer and generous financial supporter of non-conformist ministers. Another minister she was supporting was Richard Rothwell. [1]
