Biography
John Dodd was born in Cheshire, England.
John was born about 1804. He was christened in Neston on 22nd January 1804. His parents were stated to be Richard Dodd and Elizabeth (Foreshaw) Dodd.
John married Mary (Craven) Dodd in 1828 at St Mary's on the Hill, Chester.
The family name Dod or Dodd is relatively common still in Cheshire - it's origins are Welsh. Dod name history
The 1841 census shows that Mary and John have two sons, John and Richard Dodd and two daughters, Elizabeth and Mary and are living in Seaville St Boughton Chester. Seaville St today
John has employment as a sawyer.
The 1851 Census shows that the family now include Father - in -law Richard and there is a younger daughter born since the last census. Daughter Elizabeth is not mentioned. The residence is still in Seaville St. John is described as a sawyer journeyman, son John as an apprentice sawyer, son Richard as an apprentice bookseller and stationer, Mary Ann is a scholar as is Rebekah, Richard Father is described as a retired gardener.
The 1861 census shows how the household has shrunk with only Mary and John and their youngest daughter still residing there in Seaville St. John is described as a sawyer
John was buried in Thornton- le-Moors in 1878.
