John Dodd was born in about 1826 in Leek, Staffordshire, England to John Dodd and Sarah (Parker?) Dodd - he was christened on 12 Feb 1826 in Ipstones, Staffordshire.[1]
Note on birthplace: census records are not consistant regarding where he was born - the 1861 census says Radford, Staffordshire; 1871 says Castle Church, Staffordshire; 1891 says Sherp Cliff; and 1851 & 1881 both say Leek, Staffordshire. Leek seems like the most likely one - both because it was on two separate censuses, and because it is much closer to the place where John was christened. John's siblings were born in various places around Staffordshire, so most likely the family moved around a fair bit, possibly causing confusion about who was born where.
