Note: When Jack was 25 he had a farm accident which resulted in losing his right arm and fingers on his left hand. While being treated in the hospital he met his future wife Velma Ploof. Following his accident he was employed at McGovern's Grain Store in East Fairfield, H.B. Jones Store in Enosburg Falls. While working in Enosburg, he bought his in-laws farm and continued to operate it until retiring in 1995. Jack never let his disability slow him down, he was able to fix and collect antique tractors and raise horses. His love of horses came from his father who worked with horses in England. He was always willing to help his neighbors and always had a place for area youth to work and live. Jack became a U.S. Citizen on Nov. 20, 1956, at the age of 35. Jack will be remembered by all as a kind hearted, honest and caring gentleman. When he died, he was survived by two brothers and their wives, Kenneth and Avis Dodd of Fairfield, and Russell and Eleanor Dodd of Sheldon; one sister and her husband, Irene and Burt Strong of Craftsbury; several nieces and nephews; his special friend, Paula Lesmerises of Berkshire and her son, Michael Lesmerises of Liverpool, N.Y. He was predeceased by his wife, Velma Dodd, and a brother, Eric Dodd. ^[1]
