Biography

Setha A Dodd was enumerated at Fayette, Fayette County, Georgia for the October 28, United States Census, 1850. She was noted as born 1845 in Georgia as seen in this United States Census, 1850. Also included in the household are male John S Dodd, female Elizabeth H Dodd, male James L Dodd, female Elizabeth Dodd, male Thomas E Dodd, male Francis M Dodd, male Asa S Dodd, male George Dodd, female Nancy Dodd, female Ludercka A Dodd, male John D Dodd and female Sarah L Dodd.[1]

L A M Dodd was enumerated at Fayetteville, Fayette County, Georgia for the July 12, United States Census, 1860. She was noted as born 1844 in Georgia and was noted as a domestic as seen in the image of the original census. Also included in the household are male J S Dodd, female E H Dodd, male A L Dodd, male G M Dodd, male M F Johnson, male J D Dodd and female S L Dodd.[2]

Luticia A. M. Dodd wed Edward T. Hemperly March 3, 1861 in Fayette County, Georgia.[3]

Lydia A Hemphrey was enumerated at Bright Star Post Office, Sulphur Fork Township, Lafayette County, Arkansas for the July 16, United States Census, 1870. She was noted as born 1843-1844 in Georgia and keeping house as seen in this image of the original census. Also included in the household are male Edio F Hemphrey, female Sula Hemphrey, male Edward V Hemphrey, male Henry Hemphrey, female Cora Hemphrey and female (male) Glen Hemphrey.[4]

Letitia Hemply was enumerated as wife at Sulphur, Miller County, Araknsas for the June 22, United States Census, 1880. She was noted as keeping house, born 1845 in Georgia and married as seen in this image of the original census. Also included in the household are self Edward Hemply, son Vestus Hemply, son Henry Hemply, daughter Cara Hemply, son Glenn Hemply, son John Hemply, son Robert Hemply, son Chesley Hemply and son Marcellus Hemply.[5]

Lyde A Hemperley was enumerated as wife of the head of household in Sulphur Township (south part), Miller County, Arkansas for the June 13, United States Census, 1900. She was noted as born April 1844 in Georgia and had been married thirty-nine years. She was the mother of thirteen children of which twelve were still living as seen in an image of the original census. Also included in the household are head Edward T Hemperley, son Edward V Hemperley, son Chester M Hemperley, daughter Minnie O Hemperley, son Paul J Hemperley, son Jessie M Hemperley, daughter Ethel M Hemperley and granddaughter Nellie A Eason.[6]

Lettie E Hemperley was enumerated as wife of the head of household at Sulphur, Miller County, Arkansas for the April 22, United States Census, 1910. She was noted as born 1844 in Georgia and had been married forty-nine years. She was the mother of thirteen children of which twelve were still living as seen in the image of the original census. Also included in the household are head Edward T Hemperley, daughter Minnie O Hemperley, daughter Ethel M Hemperley and hired man William P Chappell.[7]

This newspaper article was in the Daily Arkansas Gazette, Little Rock, Arkansas; 7 Apr 1917; Page 8 - Elderly Woman To Vote- Texarkana, April 6.- This morning, Mrs. Lettie A. Hemperly, a lifelong resident of the county secured her poll tax receipt. She is 75 years old. She is the widow of the late Dr. Hemperly and lives in Sulphur township, 30 miles from here, on a farm where she and her husband settled more than half a century ago.[8]

Lettie Hemperley was enumerated as mother-in-law of the head of household in Sulphur Township, Miller County, Arkansas for the January 28, United States Census, 1920. She was noted as born 1845 in Georgia and widowed as seen in the image of the original census. Also included in the household are head Markus Williams, wife Ethel Williams, son Duncan V Williams, daughter Myrtis O Williams and daughter Madie O Williams.[9]

Dodd was listed as the mother of Mercer Hemperley who died December 20, 1947 in Los Angeles County, California. The father was listed as Hemperley.[10]

1953 Louisiana Death of son Chester

Lettie Mae Dodd was listed as the mother of Minnie Ola Nabers who died August 14, 1953 in Shreveport, Caddo Parish, Louisiana. The father was listed as E T Hemperley and the husband I T Nabers.[11]

Lettie Ann Dodd was listed as the mother of Marcellus Hemperley who died April 7, 1960 in Hosston, Caddo Parish, Louisiana. The father was listed as E T Hemperley and the wife Ida Barnett.[12]

As listed in the Find A Grave Index,[13] Litica Ann "Aunt Lett." Dodd Hemperley is buried at Evergreen Baptist Church and Cemetery in Miller County, Arkansas.[14]
