David was born on May 15, 1812, Butler County, Ohio and a son of John Dodds and Margaret Miller.David Dodds was a pioneer of Henry County and was born in Butler County, Ohio on May 15, 1812. His father, John Dodds, was a native of Ireland and immigrated to the United States when a young man. He married Margaret Miller, originally from Pennsylvania. David accompanied his parents on their move from Ohio to Indiana and settled in Cass County in 1830, being among the pioneers here. He spent his youth on a farm and in 1836 and came to Missouri, locating in Cooper County. David engaged in farming and resided there for about seventeen years. He married Miss Martha Jane Shirley. a Kentuckian by birth and a daughter of George Shirley, in Cooper County on December 20, 1838. [1][2] In 1853, David came to Henry county and located on land where he has since resided and which he entered some two years after. He was one of the first citizens of Deepwater Township and one among the first in the county. He now has a farm of 200 acres in his home place, on section 21, all improved, fenced, etc. He has forty acres of timber and a farm of fifty acres near Appleton City, in St. Clair County. David has raised a family of twelve children: 1. Cynthia Jane (now Mrs. James Hill), 2. Elizabeth (now Mrs. Ison Stubblefield), 3. John, 4. Jesse L., 5. Charles A., 6.Margaret (wife of James McBride), 7. Matilda, 8. Mary C. (wife of James Cook), 9. Thomas C., 10. Amanda (wife of James A. McBride), 11 Martha J., 12. David. David and Martha are members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.[3][4][5][6][7] He passed away on September 6, 1892 and buried in the Montrose Cemetery one mile west of Montrose, Henry County, Missouri on County Road H.
