Susanna Jane Dodgson was born Susan Jane Dodgson in 1951 in Bristol, UK, dragged to Manchester at 3, Belfast at 5, put on a slow boat to New Zealand at 6 for the cruise of a lifetime which I can hardly remember (we stopped at Panama, Curacao, Trinidad, Samoa, Fiji for goodness sake), being 6, I was dragged out of paradise to Australia when I was 9. After a wonderful education at Randwick Primary School, Sydney Girls High School and the University of New South Wales, I had the best 10 days of my life. In October 1978 I ran for state parliament, turned 27, was officially awarded my PhD (physiology & pharmacology), and was on my way to Philadelphia for a post-doctoral fellowship. Via Malibu, which was on fire. Youth, wow.
My base since 1978 has been the Delaware Valley, which includes Philadelphia and southern New Jersey.
In 1980 I was in the train station in Bologna when a bomb exploded, killing 80' giving me a small understanding of what life was like for my parents when they met when bombs were dropping on London.
From 1986 I have been a frequent visitor to the Black Forest of Germany where I acquired a third husband (in a pub in Freiburg on Anzac Day, which was also the day that Chernobyl exploded) who was the father of my younger two children. He had common ancestors with Anne Frank, Albert Einstein, and a Nobel Laureate Dr Loewi. A brilliant physicist and inventor with 57 patents, a lifelong rower, extreme skier and cyclist, he died slowly and horribly from Parkinson's in 2019. We are all so clever, but we can't stop the slow progression of dementia and paralysis.
I publish websites, the entry website is www.mjota.org, and I have far more online than you want to read.
